Roman art was often displayed in public spaces and on public buildings. Learn about real Roman artefacts and create a class frieze to be displayed back at school. In this hands-on workshop children can develop their observation, sketching and drawing skills. Using Arbeia’s extensive ancient Roman artefact collection, children will develop their looking skills and vocabulary through a handling session followed by making preliminary sketches and a final colourful drawing of their favourite object in the gallery. Using different techniques, the drawings will be made to resemble terracotta pottery, stone, bone, metal or Jet and placed onto a collaborative frieze to be displayed back at school. The session ends with a mystery trail.
