Be a part of history and have your unique wedding celebration at Arbeia, South Shields' Roman Fort.

Step back in time with up to 30 guests and experience your celebrant led ceremony at the Commanding Officer’s House. This 4th century house has been partially reconstructed and includes some of the original foundations and floor.

Or join us for an intimate celebration at the on top of the iconic West Gate* while taking in the magnificent views of the excavated fort below.

During your hire you will have the opportunity to roam the fort with your guests and take some very memorable wedding photographs.

Why not make the day unforgettable by booking a Roman re-enactment group, or by asking your guests to dress as the Romans did.

*The West Gate is open but still under repair due to storm damage.

At Arbeia, ceremonies can be performed by civil celebrants, this gives you the flexibility to create a ceremony and ‘order of service’ that is just as unique as you are. 

Please note that Arbeia does not hold a wedding licence.
