We recommend wearing sturdy footwear as the paths around the fort site are uneven and could be wet. A small torch would also be handy as you'll be crossing the fort site in darkness. The torch on your mobile will suffice.
About the event
As dusk settles and darkness falls, hear how the Romans lighted up their homes at Arbeia, South Shields' Roman Fort.
These twilight candlelit tours are the perfect way to step back, enjoy and reflect at this special time of year.
The tours are led by our expert guide Sue Balmer and include free time to explore the reconstructed Commanding Officer's House. At the end of the tour, you can ask Sue all those burning questions over light refreshments, including hot drinks and mince pies.
