Each session will last for 15 minutes and  is limited to 8 participants, on a first come first serve basis.  The sessions at the start and the end of the day tend to be the busiest, you may need to wait to take part in this activity.

Getting here:

Make your Ways to Play adventure a great value day out by travelling to our venues by Metro and / or Ferry.  Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel for free on the Metro and the Shields Ferry with a fare-paying adult. Metro is the convenient, fast and frequent way to get to your favourite attractions and now it’s even more affordable.

Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the 1875 excavations of Arbeia by taking part in an archaeological dig in our Time Quest room.

Time Quest is our hands-on experience where you can find out more about archaeology and excavations. 

Dig for finds on the reconstructed excavation site. Piece together pottery, look closely at coins and discover what you have unearthed with the help of museum staff.  

Crafty Romans activities are part of our Ways to Play programme of free and low-cost family-friendly activities.
